Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Warriors Table

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a diverse cast of characters, and a gripping narrative including celestial beings, demons, and dark forces increasing in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Spoilers for Episode 3 of the new season lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

The latest chapter ended with a major cliffhanger and presented the first table of characters who will split off from the main group to embark on their independent quest, distinct from the other two tables.

This warrior group features the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

Given a large ensemble, it was clear from the start that maintaining everyone at the same party would be impossible.

This explains, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, intertwining the characters’ stories before branching into three distinct groups: Warriors, Schemers, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Warrior Group

Per the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who prefer a classically intense fight-heavy story mode where peaceful solutions are scarce.

At first glance, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander might look mismatched, but the events of the latest installment make it clear why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the group knows exactly where to go next after a brutal first encounter with the enemy group.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose death started the campaign’s events—exploited the foes for his selfish purposes, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting Thimble, and swiping all the enchanted items to dispose of.

The traitor then settled his liabilities and escaped to a fortified location in the remote area, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each adventurer has a personal reason to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, desires vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the region and warns that it is a nasty environment.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having resisted his relatives’ demands to execute the target and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • However, their status as important members in the powerful family could help the team access locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, The fighter swore a eternal obligation to The cleric for his rescue and will now follow him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

In addition, all of them are hunted by the authorities that rule the city for a multiple motives, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • Thimble and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and The healer betrayed the influential house and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is wanted dead by the family.

This leaves them few options but to journey toward the remote area in pursuit of Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

From the latest episode’s post-show segment, we find out that the combat party will be absent the following episode, leaving the rest of the cast members to round up the Explorers and Planners parties.

Audiences can anticipate finding out which adventurers will be assigned to which table in the story’s final introductory chapter, released on October 24.
